Reciprocating compressors – also known as piston compressors – are available as dry machines or oil-injected machines, the latter requiring additional auxiliary process equipment.
Each process-gas reciprocating compressor is designed to fulfill a particular process function, e.g. to provide pressure and flow within a certain specified range. AviComp RecipControls are specifically designed to support the compressor in performing its process function.
The complexity of the machine configuration dramatically increases the monitoring and control requirements, in particular where stage-wise capacity controls, extensive protection controls, and elaborate auxiliary controls are needed to support the compressor’s operation.

Process-gas reciprocating compressors in state-of-the-art plants will most likely have their suction-pressure, discharge-pressure, and discharge-temperature loops assigned an SIL rating. This demonstrates the control system complexity of multi-stage machines.
